Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to talk?
No. You choose how much you share, and listening is a full part of the group. Many people speak little on the first evening and more as the weekend goes on.
Do I need to have done an encounter group before?
No. Many people come to Kendal Encounter for their first encounter group.
Do I need to be a counsellor
No. The group is open to anyone with an interest in person-centred encounter, although most participants are therapists or students.
Is what I say kept confidential?
The group agrees on its own ground rules on the first evening, and confidentiality is always one of them.
What if it gets too much?
You can take a break at any time. The facilitators are available during the weekend if you want to talk privately.
Do I need to attend the whole weekend?
The group works best when everyone is there throughout, and the CPD certificate is for full attendance. Please tell us in advance if you might have to miss part of it.
How many people will be there?
Around 20-30, plus the two facilitators.
